The "Celebrating Women" exhibit, Paolo Gianturco's photographs of festivals that honor women in six countries, will open March 9 at UNESCO international headquarters, Paris, to commemorate International Women's Day. The exhibit is part of a month-long celebration arranged annually by UNESCO's Division for Gender Equality, Bureau of Strategic Planning.
The photographs were excerpted from the first exhibit ever created by the International Museum of Women, which was visited by an estimated 40,000 visitors in 2004. One hundred percent of Paola Gianturco's author royalties from the book, "Celebrating Women", benefit IMOW.
UNESCO's galleries will feature selected exhibits created by women artists in China, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Japan and the United States, which is represented by Ms. Gianturco's work.
The exhibits will be open to the public at UNESCO headquarters, 7 place de Fontenoy, Paris, on weekdays from March 10-26 from 9:00AM to 5:30 PM. Admission is free; a photo ID is required to ender the UNESCO building. "Celebrating Women" will be exhibited in two galleries: Miro 1 and 2.
