About me:

Monica Gonzalez, born in Texas and dual citizen of US and Mexico, has been captain of the Mexican Women’s National Soccer team since 2003 and a member since its inception in 1998. In 2004 she lead the team to its first ever appearance in Olympic competition. She currently has 54 international caps and 6 goals for the Tri-colores. Monica had a record-setting collegiate career and in 2002 was 11th overall pick in the WUSA draft. At age 19, she competed in the 1999 Women’s World Cup. In addition, Monica has participated in several Gold Cups and Women’s World Cup Qualifiers. Monica is dedicated to promoting women’s soccer in Mexico and is an active supporter of the Women’s Sports Foundation and their initiative GoGirlGo to keep young women active and healthy. She is currently attending Golden Gate University in San Francisco.
