Shailja (pronounced. Shell-ja) Patel is a Kenyan-Indian-American explosion on the national poetry scene. She has performed at US venues from the Lincoln Center to San Quentin prison. She has also performed in London and Glasgow, and her work has been broadcast, published, and translated internationally. She is currently developing a one-woman spoken-word theater show, Migritude. Migritude has already received extensive media coverage and was recently selected for the International Women Art Festival in Vienna in early 2006.
