About me:

At only 19 years of age, Chelan M. Pedrow traveled solo to The People’s Republic of China where she volunteered in an orphanage. While working among the children at the Nanchang Social Welfare Institute, her eyes were opened to the global need for prosthetic and orthopedic intervention. Upon her return to the United States she changed her coursework at the University of Idaho to Biological Systems Engineering, with the intention of working in rehabilitative medicine. Four years later Pedrow successfully finished her Bachelor of Science degree but was not present for her graduation ceremony: she was traveling to Amman, Jordan as the fifth member of Physicians for Peace Walking Free Team. Their mission included working with medical personnel from Basra, Iraq to increase the skills of the four Iraqi bench workers and fit six Iraqi lower-limb amputees. At present she is enrolled at Georgia Institute of Technology earning a Master’s degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics. She continues to raise awareness of the need for prosthetics and orthotics in third world and war-torn countries. Chelan Pedrow was born in Ithaca, NY and has lived in Moscow, ID for most of her life.
