Sonia Faleiro is a writer based in Mumbai. Her first novel The Girl was published by Penguin Viking in January, 2006. Her non-fiction includes a six-part series on Mumbai’s bar girls and a six part series on India’s domestic workers, both for Tehelka newspaper. She has also written on India’s hijda community, the farmer’s suicides in Vidarbha, and about malnutrition in Mumbai. Her writing appears in Tehelka, Time Out, Travel + Leisure, Third World Resurgence, The Hindustan Times, The Indian Express, Himal South Asia, and Maxim. She is currently working on her second book.
