About me:
Sharbari Zohra Ahmed was born in Dhaka, Bangladesh in 1971. She arrived in the US at the age of three weeks and subsequently grew up in Connecticut, Ethiopia, China, New York and Massachusettes. She recieved her MA in creative writing from NYU in 1997. Her stories have appeared in various publications including The Gettysburg Review, Catamaran and The Asian Pacific American Journal. In 2003 she received the First Words Literary Prize for her short fiction. Her first play Raisins Not Virgins was produced by the Work Shop Theater Co last year. She adapted it to a screenplay which was a Sundance Screenwriter's Lab semi-finalist. She is a founding member of Muslims For Peace an organization dedicated to promoting tolerance and dialogue among all people (www.muslimsforpeace.net.) She lives with her husband Michael and son Anjay in Darien, CT.
