About me:
Sevdije Kastrati was born in 1983 in Zahaq, Kosova. She began studying medicine before transitioning to filmmaking and cinematography at the Institute of Photography and Film Gjon Mili. She now works as a filmmaker and cinematographer, but has also worked as a photographer, camp counselor, actress, emergency department medical assistant, and Albanian/English translator. Her many films include a documentary project with the Youth Video Project “Postcard from Peja,” about life during the war and post war Kosovo, which she presented at the Sundance Film Festival 2001. Other films include "In the Hands of Youth," based on the weapon issue, “The Unspoken,” which illuminates the realities of Kosovar women, Sevdije both produced and filmed the documentary film “Mirror, Mirror” about the image of women in media. This project was sponsored by Kvinna Till Kvinna and UNMIK Office of Gender Affairs. The film has been presented in Sarajevo Film Festival, New York International Independent film Festival, Balkan Black Box and other festivals.
