About me:
Karla Solano has always worked with photography. In Costa Rica, until very recently, this medium was limited to traditional works and Solano's presence, along with a young generation of artists, is challenging and revolutionizing the Costa Rican art scene. Karla Solano's work explores the human body, and her own in particular. For a long time, she has used X-rays as a means to metaphorically analyze her own self. In later works, using her own body after it had undergone changes due to maternity, she superimposed X-rays and self portraits to create more dramatic images like ”Under my Skin,” a segmented woman whose breasts and womb are eerily separated from her head. Virtually exposing herself in a society that refuses nudity as natural, Karla Solano has dedicated herself to a detailed examination of her physical self as a subject of analysis and a reflection of the times.
