About me:

Wanuri Kahiu was born in Nairobi, Kenya and attended the University of Warwick, UK, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in management science in 2001. She then enrolled in the Master of Fine Arts programme in directing at the School of Film and Television at the University of California, Los Angeles. To date, she has received the Motion Pictures of America Associates Award and the Hollywood Foreign Press Award for distinguished directors for her student film “Ama’s Mama.” Before filming "Ras Star" Wanuri directed the behind the scenes documentary for Phillip Noyce's "Catch-A-Fire" (Universal/ Working Title Films). She currently works as a freelance filmmaker in Kenya.
