About me:
Melis Birder moved to New York City in 1994 after studying in Turkey. She graduated from the New School and became interested in documentary filmmaking. She started her documentary career as an educator and ran video programs at various New York City public schools. She was commissioned to direct and produce documentaries for libraries and other community groups dealing extensively with social issues. She is currently editing her new film “The Visitors” supported by Sundance Documentary Fund on women who visit their loved ones in various prisons located in upstate New York.
