ولدت مارغريتا ماريا سيرانو مورينو في عام 1977 في كالي، بكولومبيا، وتعيش حالياً في ماديسون بويسكونسن. بعد حصولها على درجة البكالوريوس في الفنون في بوغوتا، قررت مارغريتا أن تسافر إلى الولايات المتحدة في محاولة لفهم المزيد عن نفسها وثقافتها من خلال عيشها في ظل ثقافة مختلفة. كان الاختلاف بين الجنسين في ثقافتها أحد أفكارها الرئيسية؛ إنها تصور النساء في أسرتها على أنهن يمثلن الثقافة الكولومبية.
