معلومات عني
I am a Professor of Anthropology at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. I have written books on a variety of subjects including the origins of sexual inequality, which utilized a cross-cultural sample of the world's known and best described societies; cannibalism; fraternity gang rape on US college campuses. Based on many years of fieldwork in the world's largest matrilineal society, the Minangkabau of West Sumatra, I redefined the meaning of matriarchy as seen through the customs and rituals of the Minangakabau in a book entitled "Women at the Center."

I write for change--so that my audience understands the major issues facing women. My work is ethnographic. I spent many years in a self-identified "matriarchate," the Minangkabau of West Sumatra, Indonesia, in order to learn about the meaning of matriarchy as seen through the eyes of a living people. I have written a book on my ethnography of the Minangakbau, this subject, and made a video of how matriarchy works in West Sumatra. I also have a photographic exhibition on this subject which I am submitting.
