Sobre mí

Joyce Owens is a painter, sculptor, curator, writer, arts advocate, mother and wife. She has taught students from pre-school through college as old as 71 years of age. Owens believes art should be available to everyone and believes everyone can engage in art practice with support and training. An important aspect for artists, in general, is self-confidence. It is hard to have the courage to become an artist when you come from an under-privileged community. The struggle is long and hard. I have persisted because I can't stop myself!

Muestra cambiada por:

I try to change people's minds. My own work and curatorial efforts address issues around race and gender and the environment. I especially want people to see that people of African descent and other brown people are just that-people. By showing aspects of African American history they has hidden in plain site,I can open eyes to who we really are, and educate people about the reality so they can leave the mythology behind.

Me apasiona:

Race, gender and environment
