A propos de moi

My professional career is that of Probation Officer and qualified in Social Work and in Probation Services, graduated from University of Malta.
I am author of four books in Maltese and one in English which is Torn Velvet; A story about Rape. I am also artist. I have recently completed with success a course Diploma in Diplomatic Studies at the University of Malta. Presently, I am coordinating a social issues committee of the National Council of Women in Malta. Iam also active member with a left wing organization.

In times of armed conflict, women and young girls are more vulnerable to rape and sexual abuse. In the story below, I imagine the reality of Rachela, a young woman from Bosnia Herzegovina, who was raped and left to deal with her memories of the experience and a son born from the event.

Between November 28 and 30, Mary Anne Zammit participated on behalf of the Green Party of Malta in a Mediterranean Network meeting organized by the European Greens in Nicosia, Cyprus. Zammit presented a paper on human rights in non-European Union countries focusing on human trafficking, a problem common in the Balkans and in the Mediterranean region. This article is inspired by the presentation.
