Throughout my long career as an artist, I have concentrated on portraying, by using different art media, my life experiences. As a result, my art is an ongoing narrative and a self-portrait that attempts to reconcile the absolute and contradictory forces that have influenced and governed my life.

When God Was a Woman is part of my Lost in Translation Series where I question and dialogue with the writers of the three Holy Books--the Old and New Testament and the Qur'an--regarding war, women, and homosexuality.

My composite of photographic images originates at the Gay Parade in San Francisco and at the Aids Quilt display in Washington D.C. The scriptures speak of love, as well as hate, bias and prejudice. The debate and dialogue includes preachers reading Leviticus which state that a homosexual lifestyle is an "abomination."

My artwork continues to be a self-portrait, an ongoing narrative that searches for meaning and answers to the forces that have governed my life.

In my current images of myth and reality--on themes of sexuality and spirituality, I examine more fully what it is to be a woman in this world of absolutes and contradictions.
