2009 in the White Spaces
This series of paintings was produced in the context of vast cultural changes. Inspired by the white space, I created 16 contemporary iconic cultural concepts. The titles of the pieces--e.g., The President's Stimulus 2009, Graceful Control and Peace over War--ask the viewer to take a moment and reflect on the world as they know it. The piece Women, Power and Politics: The Madonnas was inspired by and is a direct response to I.M.O.W.'s 2008 exhibition.

These almost seem like a process of mapping in a sense, appropriating some of the visual language of charts and graphs to create gloriously colorful representations of what's happening now. I would love to know more about your mapping process.

Nice to connect. My design process in art considers a mapping process. In this case, in the white spaces, each canvas contain a grid, similar to the stock market swings. I work to create structure in my abstraction as part of my process. Each painting contains roughly 4-6 layers to complete a balanced composition. Cheers & thank you to IMOW.org.
