For our Speaker Series, I.M.O.W. proudly hosted a conversation with acclaimed journalist Nicholas Kristof about the oppression of women worldwide and what can be done to improve gender equity.

Artist Mira Michelle used a period of unemployment and personal hardship to create new art, change her lifestyle and reconsider the relationship between the economy, ecology and home.

A Camfed program in Zambia trains high school graduates in business and helps them launch their own enterprises, all with the goal of fighting poverty and HIV/AIDS by investing in women.

Using familiar financial language, artist Alina Chau presents a fanciful depiction of the current economic climate in her piece, "Bear and Bull," created especially for Economica.


With help from the Global Partnership for Afghanistan, female farmers in Afghanistan are building farm businesses to gain economic independence and cultivate stability in their war-torn country.

Our current economic system is based on exchange. Genevieve Vaughan suggests that an alternative economic model based on giving could help us recover from the global financial crisis.
